The NRA FIRST Steps (Firearm Instruction, Responsibility and Safety Training) Pistol is the latest addition to the NRA’s training programs for new shooters. It provides a hands-on orientation to one specific pistol model in as little as three hours, including a one hour shooting session on the range. This course was developed from the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course and provides a thorough introduction to firearms SAFETY, HANDLING, and SHOOTING SKILLS. Classes are taught at the Rivanna Rifle & Pistol Club main clubhouse. This course meets one of the mandated requirements to apply for a Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit.

Classes begin at 6:00 PM and are completed around 9:30 PM.

It is recommended that students bring their own handgun along with at least 50 rounds of ammunition. If this is not possible, a loaner pistol may be provided with advanced notice. Please contact the Chief Instructor listed below at least two weeks advanced to coordinate this.

The cost of the class is $15.00 for club members and $30.00 for non members.

SNOW: If Albemarle County Schools are closed the day of the class due to snow, this class will be canceled too.
