Membership
Eligibility and Requirements
In order to join and remain a member, you must:
- Be a citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States of America,
18 years of age or older. - Be a resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia, excepting with proof:
- Active duty military personnel (must present your Orders), or
- Out of state, full–time students attending a Virginia college (must present your current Virginia College ID).
- Be a member of the National Rifle Association. * SPECIAL DEAL – Join or renew the NRA through this link, let's you save $10 off the normal, annual NRA membership dues, AND club receives money back. Please help your club while you save money.
- Intend to always use guns safely and display good sportsmanship.
- Intend to be a productive, contributing member to the RRPC community.
- Be legally eligible to possess, transport or carry a firearm in Virginia, according to the Virginia Code; and notwithstanding possible age constraint, be legally eligible to obtain a Concealed Handgun Carry Permit in Virginia, as summarized here.
If the Commonwealth of Virginia prohibits you from legally owning a gun, you may NOT be a member of the Rivanna Rifle & Pistol Club.
Procedures for Joining Club
- Download and read RRPC’s By-Laws (2011) and Policies & Procedures.
- Read the entire instructions on this page, description of work prerequisite, and then go here to apply and pay online. Note: Your completed online application and payment must be received at least 24 hours BEFORE your first Membership meeting.
- Come to your first Membership Meeting early at 6:30 pm, to meet with the Membership Committee, prior to the 7:30 pm start of the Membership Meeting. (Membership Meetings are on the second Thursday of the month. Check the Calendar for dates.) There you will be introduced to the club. Bring the following items to your first Membership Meeting:
- Your NRA membership card, and
- Proof that you may legally possess, transport or carry a firearm in Virginia; via either:
- Your Virginia Resident Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP), or
- A recent bill–of–sale of firearm from a Virginia FFL dealer to you the purchaser, or
- Results of a recent Virginia State Police Criminal Record (background) Check performed on you. (Recent is within past 6 months.)
- Complete the following prerequisites:
- Attend the mandatory Orientation session. These are held monthly on the Sunday morning between the Membership and Board Meetings, from 11:00 am - 1:30 pm in the clubhouse. Contact Orientation with any questions.
- Perform your verified 4 Hours Work (as described here) only IF you chose to NOT pay the additional $125 fee. (Note: this fee may be paid during online application or by check at a Membership Mtg.)
- Your application will be voted on at the next Membership Meeting you attend once you’ve completed all this. You may not become a member of RRPC, nor receive a fob, until AFTER you have fulfilled all the prerequisites and requirements, as stated. Come to this Membership Meeting early at 6:30 pm, to meet with the Membership Committee, prior to the 7:30 pm start of the Membership Meeting.
