Gun Collectors
Welcome to the Gun Collectors Group at Rivanna Rifle & Pistol Club
Looking for something else to do that is related to shooting sports? This is it.
What is it about collecting guns? Is it the history, the mechanical design, its appearance or just that fantastic piece of wood in the stock that speaks to you and says “I gotta have it”?
Gun collecting turns you into a historian; you can’t help it as you research your latest find. You just naturally want to know more about your new gun. What influenced the design? What were the politics of the time or the strategies of the wars? Where was the gun used and what about the soldier who used it.?
Gun collecting by its nature is not something you can share with just anyone.
If you collect cars, quilts or baseballs you wouldn’t hesitate to tell anyone who will listen what you do or offer to show them your collection.
Collecting guns is a whole different thing – no one wants to risk a break-in or worse. So you don’t get to share your hobby with anyone for fear that they might tell someone else.
You have a lot to be proud of and want to share it with others. This group gives like-minded people, both young and old, a place to share their hobby and interests in comfortable familiar surroundings.
Because we have access to the club’s ranges some meetings could involve live fire demonstrations of arms from members’ collections, using either the indoor or outdoor ranges.
Group activities will include road trips to museums, shows and historic sites. So make your wish list and tell us where you would like to go.
We are a low-key group for all levels of collectors, giving beginners an opportunity to learn from more advanced collectors.
All members are encouraged to set-up educational displays at the regular RRPC meetings.
Who can join?
The Gun Collectors Group is for Rivanna Rifle and Pistol Club members only. You must be a member in good standing.
Safety:
All RRPC and firearms safety rules apply.
Meetings:
We are currently meeting on the second Thursday of the month at 6 pm, right before the Membership meeting and in time for the cookout.
What’s going on:
Displays are setup at the regular meetings each month. Bring out your best and setup with us.
Fun Day September 11th we will be having displays and “stuff” for sale ‘n trade in the club house, tables are available - email funday@rrpc.org for your table.
Collector’s tip#1:
Ask any collector what is the most important thing you can do when starting out and they will tell you “buy a book”. Thinking about collecting, buy a book first. Got a new gun, buy a book about it. Knowledge is power. . . .
